Immigrants and associations launched a web service Monimos

| Immigrants living in Finland and associations working on multiculturalism have launched a joint web service at www.monimos.fi. The web service is intended to serve as the multicultural voice of Finland. The website is a virtual meeting place for associations, immigrants and others interested in multicultural issues and provides an opportunity for networking. |

| The report concerning the school shooting in Kauhajoki in September 2008 has been translated into English. The report is drawn up by an investigation commission appointed by the Government. In the report, the commission describes the incident and its background, assesses the facts that have come up during the investigation and their significance, and puts forward conclusions and recommendations. |
Investigation Commission of Kauhajoki recommends stricter limitations on availability of firearms

| The Investigation Commission that investigated the school shootings in Kauhajoki recommends that firearms of a certain type be prohibited and conditions for obtaining a firearms permit be made stricter. The Commission suggests also some other measures, the purpose of which is to improve safety, health care and interaction in educational institutions. The Investigation Commission handed over its report to Minister of Justice Tuija Brax. |

| The Cabinet discussed the potential further development of electronic voting in its cabinet evening session on 13 January. It decided that the development of electronic voting at polling stations will not be continued for the meantime, but instead the current election system will be maintained. At the same time, close attention will be paid to the development of electronic voting in international arenas. |
