Jenna Kenttälä
Research assistant
Jenna Kenttälä started as a research assistant at HEUNI in August. She graduated from the University of Helsinki with a master’s degree in Social Sciences, majoring in criminology this spring. During her studies, she focused on human trafficking, victimology and organized crime to understand and find better ways to support unreachable victims. Jenna also studied abroad at the University of Amsterdam, where she deepened her knowledge of international crime and violence research.
She wrote her master’s and bachelor’s theses on human trafficking. In her master’s thesis, she examined the phenomenon of overlap between victims and offenders in human trafficking crimes in Finland. She is looking forward to working at HEUNI, which allows her to conduct research and project-based work on interesting topics.
In 2024 she completed her internship at the Assistance System for Victims of Human Trafficking, where she gained a practical experiment in supporting victims. The internship strengthened her determination to be involved in finding better ways to assist and identify victims. Working at HEUNI brings her the opportunity to achieve this aim. In the future Jenna wants to focus on finding more effective ways to combat and prevent cross-border crimes through international cooperation.
