18.8.2022 | News item

Do you want to get involved in international projects taking access to justice forward? Are you willing to get experience in event management, online promotion, and development of online trainings?

The European Institute for Crime Prevention and Control affiliated with the United Nations (HEUNI) is an independent research and policy-making institute functioning under the auspices of the Finnish Ministry of Justice. HEUNI’s core tasks are conducting criminal policy research and providing, publishing, and disseminating information (incl. training). HEUNI’s work supports the UN Sustainable Development Goals, in particular goals 5 (gender equality), 8 (decent work), and 16 (peace, justice and strong institutions). The substantive themes defined in the HEUNI strategy (2020-2023) are trafficking in human beings, corruption, the rights of crime victims and gender in the criminal justice system. HEUNI has broad and diverse stakeholder networks both nationally and internationally.

HEUNI is looking for a communications intern to assist HEUNI in disseminating evidence-based information on crime prevention and control. The trainee will take active part in the development of HEUNI's communication. A keen interest in research communication and in the development of impact-oriented communication materials are needed for successfully completing the traineeship. Skills related to visualization of data are especially appreciated. HEUNI's official working languages are Finnish and English. Other languages are an asset.

The communication trainee is expected to complete the following tasks:

  • assistance with event promotion and event management for the HEUNI Day in November 2022
  • developing social media coverage and activity based on ongoing projects’ needs
  • production of podcasts and short videos on such topics as corporate social responsibility, human trafficking, and gender-based violence
  • developing HEUNI website and online training materials
  • writing press releases and other documents
  • supporting HEUNI with work related to the organisations’ strategy

The skills needed for the completion of the tasks are creativity, initiative and flexibility, interest in research communication, some knowledge of topics related to crime control and crime prevention or similar fields, practical skills related to writing, visualization and creating media content. Experience in photography and strong knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite is considered an asset.

Applicants are requested to attach in their application an example of their prior work (for example: a press release, a handout, a visualization, a podcast).

Some universities provide an internship subsidy/trainee allowance. This allowance is considered an asset, and candidates with access to the allowance can be given a priority in case of matching skillsets and experience of the candidates.

With the consent of the applicant, a personal security clearance can be carried out on the person selected for the position or task (security clearance act 726/2014). You can find more detailed information about the security clearance procedure and the rights of the subject of the clearance at www.supo.fi
